Description
TORQ Hydration Drink uses passive and facilitated transport mechanisms to optimize the delivery of fluid and electrolytes. The hypotonic formulation responds to the passive transport process, while the high sodium and mild glucose content drives the facilitated transport activity. This makes TORQ Hydration Drink the most thorough and effective hydration product on the market today, with significant advantages over electrolyte tablets.
The advanced hypotonic formulation of TORQ Hydration Drink is specifically aimed at optimizing hydration where events/sessions last no longer than an hour and heavy sweat loss is expected. Indoor training activities such as Zwift, Sufferfest and studio cycling for cyclists and other indoor training classes such as body pump and circuit training are good examples. TORQ Hydration Drink can also be used as part of the TORQ Fuel System during longer events as an alternative to TORQ Energy Drink and is a popular choice with runners who can combine it with TORQ Gels to meet their fuel and hydration needs.
Use of the product
The contents of a sachet or single level scoop of TORQ Hydration Drink powder makes a 500ml drink. TORQ Hydration Drink mixes very easily, but if you are using a 500ml bottle, make sure to leave a small amount of air space to aid mixing. Shake vigorously and add water to make 500ml. Don't add water to powder, add powder to water. TORQ Hydration is now ready to drink.
TORQ Fuel system
Because TORQ Hydration Drink has a very low carbohydrate content, it is literally impossible to overfill with it. To achieve an intake of 90g of carbohydrates per hour via TORQ Hydration Drink alone, you would have to drink a huge 3 liters! It would be rare to need to consume more than a liter of fluid per hour in most endurance environments and since we know that a liter of TORQ Hydration Drink will provide 30g of carbohydrates, a valid approach to fueling when using TORQ Hydration Drink would be to Consume 2 additional concentrated TORQ units per hour (either TORQ Energy Gels, Bars or Chews). In other words, you can set a reminder on your watch or phone to beep every 30 minutes, at which point you would consume a gel, bar or chew. Your hydration would then be a separate entity and you would simply drink TORQ Hydration whenever you feel thirsty.
Consuming 1 liter of TORQ Hydration along with a concentrated tank unit every 30 minutes would give you the optimal 90g of carbohydrates per hour (3 TORQ units).
If you drank just 500ml of TORQ Hydration in an hour you would be taking on 75g of carbohydrates per hour using this approach, but this is still a very good level of fueling. It would still be in the range of 2-3 TORQ units per hour and would place you somewhere between Intermediate and Advanced on the 'Easy as 1 2 3' scale, TORQ Fuel System.
In particularly hot conditions, if you consume as much as 1.5 liters of fluid per hour, you can easily reduce your concentrated fuel intake to 1 TORQ unit every 45 minutes. This would give you about 70g of carbohydrates per hour, putting you back into the range of 2-3 TORQ units per hour.
For runners we recommend adapting the TORQ Fueling System in this way and using plain water or TORQ Hydration in combination with a regular intake of TORQ Energy Gels as this allows you to take on water at feeding stations during events to meet your hydration needs while ensuring you take the right amount of fuel on board. TORQ Hydration is available in sachet form and can be added to a 500ml bottle of water at a feeding station when perspiration rates are particularly high and the need for electrolyte intake becomes significant.
For cyclists or those who participate in other endurance sports, there's no reason why you couldn't use this system too – the great thing about the TORQ fueling system is that it's hugely adaptive and the products you take on board to fuel yourself to provide and hydrate, according to preference. Just stick to the main principles and choose the products you prefer to use.
